Tiana receives an Award from Environmental Associations

Past 15 July, environmental associations lije Ecologistes en Acció, DEPANA and Greenpeace gave the award in Tiana for the good waste management and treatment made in this town. Anna Rosa Martínez person responsible for Greenpeace in Catalonia said "Thank you for your collective effort to demonstrate in Catalonia, and in particular to the rest of the towns of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona that another municipal waste management is possible and very real".

In the act, delivery of a prize was made in recognition of the effort already that Tiana in year 2007, waiting for knowing the official datum of this year, recycled a total of 83,9% of the waste. That means the town only generates 16,1% of Restwaste. The environmentalists wanted to stand out that if all towns had these recovery rates it would not be necessary so many waste final treatment plants, commending the pioneering spirit and the rates achieved through the door to door selective waste collection system.

From the Town Council of Tiana, its Mayor, Emili Muñoz wanted to highlight the importance of the participation of all citizens and the consensus of all political groups to achieve these rate of recycling.

Tiana was the first town in Catalonia that implanted a door to door selective waste collection system on 5th June 2000 and is a member founding of the Association.
