Travel of technical cooperation in Bolivia on waste

From 10 to 25 January 2020, as part of the project "Consolidation and expansion of selective collection, composting and recycling in Bolivia", subsidized by the Barcelona Provincial Council and Managed by the Association of Catalan municipalities for selective collection door to door, a trip of technical cooperation composed by the Association door to door, the Commonwealth la Plana and the Waste Agency of Catalonia, has been carried out, to advise and give technical support to the projects that is being developed in the municipalities of Tiquipaya, Vinto, Sacaba and the Commonwealth of municipalities of the Alto Valley, in the region of Cochabamba.

During these days, specialists of Catalan’s institutions have held different meetings with local technicians in order to check and evaluate the correct progress of the work, and provide guidelines for monitoring and improvements to do, both in the selective collection (pickup frequency , type and quantity of trucks, routes, etc ...), composting and packaging plants, and communication campaigns, in each municipalities and the Commonwealth.

Within different activities carried out during these days, it should be noted that on January 16, the Seminar on the Composting Network in Bolivia was attended by about 170 people, exceeding the expectations of participants. The seminar was very well received and welcomed by the public, where various exhibitions were presented by Catalan experts and local experts. In this way, the composting network is consolidated as a practical and effective tool for local technicians to share experiences and knowledge.

In the same seminar, an official ceremony of presenting the certificates of recognition to Bolivian teachers and schools that participated in the exchange project between Catalan and Bolivian schools, carried out took place within the framework of this project.

The trip has been very fruitful and the enthusiasm and motivation of the project participants has been identified, in order to implement selective collection and environmental education as a previous step to achieve a good composting process.
